Mafia Memories - Stories from the Past, Present, Future

Edwin Flores • July 20, 2025

Brown Girls Doc Mafia turns 10 this fall!

What started as a bold act of collective vision has grown into a powerful global movement transforming the face of documentary film. For over a decade, we’ve rewritten the rules, uplifted thousands of BIPOC women and nonbinary storytellers, and built a creative community grounded in care, abundance, and power.

Now, as we celebrate this milestone, we need you to help bring our story to life. Whether you’ve been with us since day one or joined just recently, your reflections and memories are part of our living history. Together, they reveal who we are — and who we’re still becoming.

We’re inviting you to contribute in two ways:

  1. A questionnaire to capture your reflections, stories, and moments that shaped your journey with BGDM.
  2. An asset collection to submit behind-the-scenes photos, festival badges, posters, press clippings, and snapshots from community events.

Submit your stories and content and help keep our collective memory alive for the next generation of Mafiosas!
