Get ready for summer and these hit films showing at Tribeca Film Festival in June! Our members never disappoint — we have a whole lineup of films they've worked on. We want to give an extra special hand to our 2022-2023 BGDM Sustainable Artist Fellow Jude Chehab and 2021 BGDM Sustainable Artist Grantee Sara Nodjoumi.

Breaking the News

Join directors Princess A. Hairston, Heather Courtney and producer Diane Quon for a fireside chat about the making of Breaking the News. With its world premiere at Tribeca 2023, Breaking the News immerses its audience in the lives and steadfast pursuits of the members of The 19th — women and LGBTQ+ journalists — as they struggle to launch the agency and work to gain traction for their newsroom amidst shuttered news outlets and an upended America.

Filmmaker-Participant Ethics, Family Edition

How do we understand filmmaker-participant ethics when it comes to our own family? Join filmmakers Jude Chehab (Q), Sara Nodjoumi (A Revolution on Canvas) and Michèle Stephenson (American Promise) as they share more about their own journeys navigating this exact question. Moderated by BGDM’s Bedatri D. Choudhury.

June 9: Official Tribeca panel - The Changing Landscape of the News

At Tribeca this year, there are several films that cover the varying approaches to the news that exist today. From a documentary on The 19th, Breaking the News, created to combat how marginalized voices are portrayed in the news, to the conflict documentarian who turned the camera on himself in Transition to Rather, a film on Dan Rather's legacy. This focus on the news goes beyond the festival, with a lot of upheaval and change in the space. Join us for a conversation crafted as a constructive look at the ways news is delivered today and what audiences can do to support those who provide the news. With guests Stephania Taladrid (The New Yorker), Kristin Myers and Erinn Haines (The 19th).
