Biography

Riani Singgih⠀is a Documentary Producer/Director based in Indonesia. Growing up in foreign communities, Riani has always been interested in telling stories about identity and the idea of ‘home’. Riani has directed/produced Documentary short films in the past that have played in over 50 film festivals around the world including Big Sky Documentary Film Festival, Palm Springs Short International Film Festival, and more. Her work has been supported in IF/Then Southeast Asia by Tribeca, Docs by The Sea and Yamagata Documentary Dojo. Riani co-founded Seven Ten Media, a Production House that aims to represent marginalized voices and diverse perspectives in Indonesia. The company’s work has been featured in Vice Media, Eastern Standard Times, Discovery Channel and more.

Active Projects

Riani is currently working as a producer in 'Becoming Cik San' . The film follows a young non-binary Indonesian filmmaker looking to find the meaning of family, developed an unexpected friendship with a non-binary elderly in their 60s looking to reconnect with their biological family that they left more than 20 years ago. The film is currently in late development and has been part of Docs by The Sea and Doc Toolbox program at EFM Berlinale.

She is also working as a producer on 'Pit Dhuwur - Sweet Friday Ride' (work in progress title). Told from the perspective of a group of tall bike cyclists, The film is an intimate portrait of what it means to live as a youth in Yogyakarta as more infrastructure is developed, leaving little to no room for the marginalized. A film about misunderstood youth and their fight for their living space in an ever-increasingly dense city that is rich in history and culture. The film is currently in post-production.

Recently she has just completed a short film called 'A Sonorous Melody' as a Director. The film follows a Deaf musician who grew up in an environment where she had to speak orally. Now that she's getting older, she works to have her own voice out there by singing in sign language.
