Vane Nava

Vanessa Nava started video documenting at the age of eight. She and her sister would go to her parent’s hometown in Guerrero, Mexico and bring back home movies to her parents and family members in the US. When on a pilgrimage one day, her sister handed her this big VHS camera. Since that day she fell in love with movie making. She knew then that she would pursue a career in media making. She obtained a B.A. from Loyola University Chicago in Communication with a concentration in Video Production and Sociology/Anthropology and an M.F.A. from California College of the Arts in Fine Arts with a concentration in Media Arts with Social Practice curriculum. Vanessa Nava is a cultural strategist, producer, editor, writer, director and founder of Xiquihuitl Media, a community media production.
