Biography
Rita Baghdadi is an Emmy award-winning Moroccan-American documentary filmmaker known for the intimacy of her character-driven films. Her latest film SIRENS premiered at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival, won the Grand Jury Prize at Outfest and was praised by critics as “smartly crafted,” “utterly charming,” and “deeply moving.” Executive Produced by Natasha Lyonne and Maya Rudolph, SIRENS was released in theaters across the U.S and is now available for rent on VOD platforms. Some of Rita’s previous films include MY COUNTRY NO MORE (Independent Lens), winner of Best Feature at the 2018 Big Sky Documentary Film Festival and CITY RISING, winner of an Emmy award for Best Social Issue Film. Her work has been supported by Sundance, Tribeca, Netflix, HBO, Canon, Film Independent and the International Documentary Association. Rita is a DGA member, a 2023 Sundance Momentum Fellow and a member of DOC NYC’s ‘40 under 40’ list. She is currently in post-production on a documentary for Nat Geo/Disney+ and in development on several new projects. She is represented by WME.
