Active Projects

198 Karan Nagar - 198 Karan Nagar was a home in Srinagar for the Kilam family. The winter of 1990 in Kashmir was one of the coldest in a century. The House was locked up in the dead of the night forever. This film is part travelogue, part memoir and part documentary about seeing Kashmir through the eyes of the head of the family, discovering Kashmiriyat. Through the drama of family and relationships, the film follows the ambitions of a father and son for their family’s future, drawing from their past. The film also juxtaposes the two sides of life and the conflict in Kashmir – the togetherness and the underlying division that erupts on occasion. The film ponders on the road ahead for a land and its people, stuck for two generations in a political limbo.
