Biography
Ivonne Serna is a Mexican-born independent documentary filmmaker with a focus on environmental narratives and the exploration of political, economic, and social factors in relation to ecological issues. Committed to diverse storytelling, Ivonne emphasizes the representation of women and underrepresented communities while maintaining a global perspective and connection to local stories.
With research experience at the National Geographic Society, Ivonne is dedicated to making specialized knowledge accessible to a broader audience. Her extensive field experience in Latin America has led her to adopt co-participatory methodologies in her projects. Ivonne's film style is intimate, with an inclination towards social justice issues, gender, and environmental justice topics.
Ivonne is currently participating in the Documentary Campus 2023 Masterschool non-fiction program, where she is developing her first feature-length documentary. Her latest short film, 'Sabor y Amor,' premiered at the VTIFF Made Here film festival in April 2023. Her commitment to impact production and her vast experience in accessing and managing subjects, scheduling interviews, and coordinating logistics underscore her unique approach to documentary creation.
