Biography
Nani Sahra Walker⠀is an award-winning documentary filmmaker and immersive producer at the Los Angeles Times and lecturer at UC Berkeley.
Her previous work includes feature-length and short films for Amazon, The Atlantic, Washington Post, National Geographic, BBC, Guardian, San Francisco Chronicle and other media outlets, educational institutions, foundations, companies, and independent documentaries.
Her films and projects have received international recognition, including prestigious awards such as the Online Journalism Award, IDA nomination, Student Academy finalist, BAFTA Student finalist, MTV Music Video Award and commercial projects placed among the ten most highly valued in “Ads of the World.” Nani was a 2009/10 resident of SFFILM's FilmHouse Program.
In addition, Nani is a pioneer in new media storytelling. She led an interdisciplinary group for over two years at UC Berkeley, developing AR/VR prototypes in partnership with the Center for Augmented Cognition and The Fung Institute. In 2018, she was selected as an Augmented Reality Storyteller in Residence at McClatchy New Ventures Lab, where she co-directed a three-part mobile AR series on migration and loss along the Mexico-US border.
She has taught undergraduate and graduate students in multimedia and video production at UC Berkeley, CELSA Paris-Sorbonne and the University of Granada in Spain. Nani is an alumna of the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism and Boston University, where she focused on documentary and philosophy respectively.
