Biography

Nande Waltersâ €(she/they) is a Pratt Institute film student from South Florida, currently based in Brooklyn, NY. She's made narrative and nonfiction student films and is interested in personal documentaries, experimental filmmaking, and researching Black/POC, Womxn, and LGBTQ+ artists and filmmakers.
In 2020, Nande's fiction film Who Are You Really premiered on NoBudge in January, and in February, her documentary Bloodline premiered twice during Pratt's Black History Month art show.
During the pandemic in June, Nande created Kickback, an online creative platform to showcase friends' work. From interviewing dozens of artists, 7 online events (two film screenings in August 2020, (one for Pratt's Orientation Week), a Music Night in November 2020, a 5 hour Instagram Live zine release, a joint Black Artists showcase in February 2021, and a Zine panel event in April 2021), Almanac Zine and Kicback's 1st Birthday Zine and more, Kickback has brought together artists from dozens of states.
Nande's goal as a filmmaker and artist is to tell personal stories, invite others to do the same, and bring people together to celebrate the work they've made. She will receive her BFA in Film/Video from Pratt Institue in the spring of 2023. Until then, she will be working on her senior thesis film about family and Jamaica.

Active Projects

In 2022 I'll be planning my Senior Thesis film, a continuation of a documentary I made in the fall of 2019, Bloodline. I used a phone interview with my mom, screen recordings of my digital family tree started in 2009, and home videos my parents recorded before I was born and when I was a toddler. My main goal is to learn more about Jamaica's history and the people that came before me. With my upcoming film, my plan is to visit my Dad's family in Kingston, collect photos, ask family questions, and search some of Jamaica's libraries and archives.
