Biography
Hina Ali is a director/producer/editor living in Brooklyn. Ali's body of work reflects her personal journey as a Muslim woman and her passion for storytelling.
She is currently directing and editing her first feature documentary - An Imperfect Daughter. Her recent credits include Unladylike2020, an innovative transmedia project featuring extraordinary American heroines from the early years of feminism timed to the women’s suffrage centennial (PBS American Masters). And two documentaries following the journey of multiple athletes with special needs; from Pakistan, Iran, Jordan, and the United States; participating in the World Games.
Previously, Ali was the Additional Editor and Associate Producer for Emmy nominated feature documentary ‑ Among the Believers. She was also the AE and AP for Insh'Allah Democracy, a feature documentary about the evolution of democracy in Pakistan (Sheffield Doc Fest 2017, DOC NYC Fest 2017).
Ali has edited and produced films and shows for Vice, Netflix, PBS, BBC, Spotify, Amazon Prime, Starz, Hulu, and Cheddar. Ali wrote the story of 3 Bahadur or Brave 3 in English, Pakistan's first computer-animated 3D feature film.
She is a former Fulbright Scholar-Hubert H. Humphrey Fellow from Arizona State University (2013-14) and Chevening South Asia Journalism Fellow from the University of Westminster (2017).
