Biography

Born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, reared in the United States and having come of age cinematically in Paris France,⠀Guetty Felin⠀is an award winning Haitian-American filmmaker with a rich and eclectic background in the film and television industry. She writes and directs and produces both documentaries and narrative films. In 2007 she launched BelleMoon Productions a US based company that since has been the co-producing entity of all of her works. In 2014 the Women’s Film Institute honored her as one of the most vital figures in film, television and media in the San Francisco Bay Area. Her feature narrative debut, Ayiti Mon Amour, premiered internationally at the Toronto International Film Festival 2016 and is currently touring the festival circuit around the world. The film was bought by Orange Studio for distribution in France. It won Best Narrative Feature at the BlackStar Film Festival and was Haiti’s very first Oscar contender for Best Foreign Language Film Category for the 2018 Academy Awards. The film was widely acclaimed by the press, Variety called director Guetty Felin a "strong and distinct new voice" in international cinema. When she is not working on her own films, she’s producing and/or showcasing and distributing the works of other filmmakers. In January of 2018, she launched the first edition of Les Lumières du Sud – Rencontres Cinématographiques de Jacmel, a film festival with a mission to instigate and inspire a viable film industry in Haiti.
