Biography

Anayansi Prado is known nationally for her heartfelt films that delve behind the headlines. With over 20 years of experience, she crafts works that illuminate contemporary cultural conversations and invite dialogue. Her award-winning films have aired on PBS, including Maid in America (Independent Lens), Paraiso for Sale (PBS World Channel), and The Unafraid (America Reframed), and have screened at Tribeca Film Festival, DC/DOX , Full Frame, and her latest feature film, Uvalde Mom premiered at SXSW. 

Anayansi has been recognized with a Concordia Fellowship, a Chicken & Egg Award, a Rockefeller Media Fellowship, and is a Creative Capital Artist. Her work has been supported by various funders including the Sundance Institute, MacArthur Foundation, Ford Foundation, ITVS, Perspective Fund, and Tribeca Studios.

A noted public speaker, instructor and guest lecturer, Prado has served as a mentor and instructor for programs such as Sundance Co//ab, Film Independent Documentary Lab, Firelight Media Lab, Chicken and Egg Alumni Nest, Sisters in Cinema Fellowship, and others. She has been a visiting film professor at UCLA's Film School graduate program, Chapman University's Film Department and Cal State Northridge Journalism Department. Anayansi is cultural envoy for the State Department’s Program The American Film Showcase and has taught documentary workshops in 5 continents.
