Biography
Beyza Boyacioglu is a documentary director and film editor from Istanbul, currently based in Brooklyn. She is the editor of Vivek Bald’s upcoming documentary In Search of Bengali Harlem, supported by PBS/CAAM and Just Films/Ford Foundation. She was the supervising editor and producer of BBC Work/Life and BBC Future’s Bright Sparks web series; she also created and produced BBC Reel’s _The Recipe Book _web series_. _As an editor, she has worked with directors including Nausheen Dadabhoy, Iyabo Boyd, Adam Mazo and Ben Pender-Cudlip. She was recently a mentee at the Karen Schmeer Diversity in the Edit Room program.
As a director, Beyza’s work includes the cross-platform documentary Zeki Müren Hotline (produced at the MIT Open Documentary Lab), and the short film Toñita’s (produced by UnionDocs). Her projects have been exhibited at MoMA Doc Fortnight, IDFA, RIDM, Morelia International Film Festival, MoMA PS1, !f Istanbul, New Orleans Film Festival and many other venues and festivals. She was a fellow at Chicken & Egg, Flaherty Seminar and Greenhouse (Close Up), and received grants from LEF Foundation, MIT and SALT Research.
She is currently developing her first feature documentary A Prince from Outer Space: Zeki Müren.
Beyza holds an MSc in Comparative Media Studies from MIT, an MFA in Computer Arts from SVA and BA in Visual Arts from Sabanci University. She is an alumnae of The Edit Center and a member of Brooklyn Filmmakers Collective.
