Active Projects

Joonam is a non-fiction feature that combines observational footage, mixed-media animation/video collage, and home video to tell a story about one filmmaker’s search for belonging in her family’s Iranian past. Excavating the memories of her grandmother, mother, and self, Joonam explores the evolving shape of girlhood - and, with it, the complex relationships between mother and daughter, Iran and America, and the immigrant experience as it ripples over time. The film is currently in production, and to date has received support from the Sundance Institute, Cinereach, Catapult Films Fund, Tribeca Institute, LEF Foundation, Points North Institute, and HBO Documentary Films.
