Biography
Nive Das⠀is a South Asian independent documentary film producer and social impact advisor with over 20 years experience across sectors. In 2017, she founded the award winning independent production house, The Monsoon Diaries. Her first short documentary, Boys in the Boat, premiered at the 2018 Awareness Film Festival, where it won the audience award for best student film. She was a consulting producer on La Grieta, a Spanish feature documentary that premiered at Seminici in 2017, and won both the Jury and Audience awards in 2018 at Documenta Madrid. Prior to this, Nive was the Executive Director of CatManDew Co-labs, an incubator for South Asian digital artists based in Kathmandu. Currently, she is in-development on a new documentary feature film, To Return with support from IFP. In addition to her film work, Nive has served as an advisor in the education, research, advocacy, technology, art and cultural heritage sectors. She is a 2018 graduate of The Documentary Institute at The George Washington University, a 2018 Double Exposure Investigative Film Festival Scholar, and a 2020 Docs In Progress Fellow. She holds an MA in Participation, Power and Social Change from the Institute of Development Studies in Brighton, UK. Nive believes passionately in the power of people serving as their own advocates of change and hopes to produce inspiring, participant driven stories of hope, change, and truth that place people, power, and social change front and center. She has lived and worked in the USA, UK, North Macedonia, Egypt, Qatar, Nepal, India, and Russia but currently resides in Washington, D.C.
